If you use the Targeted Force Transfer method, you can easily collapse the opponent who resists strongly.

Therefore, it can be an effective AIKI method that can be used in the preliminary stages of the normal Jujutsu techniques such as throwing.

I will explain an example of this for the Jujutsu technique Ude Oshi Ichijo Fudo.

Ude Oshi Ichijo Fudo

A and B sit in Seiza by face to face.

A…Defender
B…Attacker

a・B grasps A’s left collar with right hand firmly.
b・A grasps B’s right lower arm with both hands then transfer force directly to B’s right shoulder using Targeted Force Transfer.
c・By this action A’s upper body collapses.
d・Further, turning himself clockwise, A rotates B to the right, makes him laid on his stomach to control him with Ichijo Fudo (※).

※Ichijo Fudo…
A Jujutsu technique in which the opponent is laid on his stomach. Pressing down on his right shoulder with your left hand, you take his right wrist and pull his arm straightened up, then rotate it in clockwise till he gives up.

In case you use Jujutsu technique only, you press the opponent’s shoulder via his straightened arm by using rotating moment, i.e. setting the edge of your right shoulder as a rotation center and whole shoulder length as a rotation radius.

In other words, the point is not to forcefully push the opponent’s shoulder in a straight line.

However, with AIKI, you can crush your opponent with even much less force.

1 How to strengthen your consciousness #1

It is important how you can transfer the force directly to the opponent’s right shoulder through his right arm which was extended to grasp your left collar.

This is achieved entirely through the strength of your consciousness.

There are many methods to realize it. One example is to let somebody push the opponent right shoulder from behind.

In this case, instead of pushing the opponent’s right shoulder, you should push the opponent’s right arm with the intention of pushing the third person who is supporting him from behind.

If you set a target to apply force like this, the probability of transferring force directly to the opponent’s right shoulder should increase.

Once you are able to do this, eventually you will be able to transfer force directly to the opponent’s right shoulder just by being conscious of it without asking for help from anyone.

2 How to strengthen your consciousness #2

In a similar way, but this time let a third person stand next to the opponent. Then use his left finger to move the opponent’s right shoulder from front to back, along the line of force.

Then please push the opponent’s right arm with the image to transfer force to the opponent’s right shoulder while looking at it.

This could be more difficult than point①, but I think many people might do it, too.

Summary of Lesson 19

The targeted Force Transfer method requires a particularly strong consciousness in the methods we have done so far.

Here I explained some of the practicing ways of the method. But there are still many ways to strengthen consciousness.

In short, I can say that the fastest way to progress is for each person to find a method that suits them.
