Lesson 24 With Comb. of Different Methods #2
Well, at the end of this course, continuing from the last time, I will introduce a technique using a combination of different methods.
The combination is also the most commonly used Undetectable Force Transfer and Targeted Force Transfer.
Ryo Ude Tori Irimi Nage
A and B stand by face to face.
A…Defender
B…Attacker
a・B grasps A’s both wrists.
b・A takes a step forward with his right leg to form a Migi Hanmi stance, and raises his right arm straight upward by Undetectable Force Transfer.
c・Then, when his right forearm reaches from B’s chest to the neck, push down the arm using Targeted Force Transfer method so that the force is applied directly to B’s abdomen.
d・B feels the force suddenly applied to his abdomen and collapses down.
Normal Irimi Nage is not an AIKI but an Aiki Jujutsu technique which does not use consciousness. In the other words, if you can make good copy of the instructor’s movement you can master it.
The opponent is forced to fall down in a physiological response to this arm, which is deeply inserted and moved along the body in a predetermined path.
On the other hand, the Irimi Nage described here you apply force directly to the opponent’s abdomen to collapse the opponent. In other words, it is an AIKI Irimi Nage.
The difficult part of this technique is pushing down your right arm over the opponent’s right shoulder so that the force acts directly on the opponent’s abdomen.
Auxiliary Movement & Strong Consciousness
This can be realized by moving down the arm with a strong consciousness of “directly applying force to the opponent’s abdomen” instead of physical movement.
If you can’t do it no matter how much you try, when you lower your arms, bend both knees to lower your center of gravity by about 10 centimeters. You will surely succeed.
After that, adjust the degree of bending your knees to reduce the distance that the center of gravity is lowered, together with trying to strengthen your consciousness, finally you will be able to achieve the goal by just moving down your arm with a strong consciousness.
Summary of Lesson 24
In the Irimi Nage of the founder of Aikido, Morihei UESHIBA Sensei, which can be seen in the video, he throws the opponent downward without inserting his arm deeply, that is different than normal Irimi Nage which many Aikido people perform.
At that time, the throwing hand is shaped like swinging the sword down on the opponent’s shoulder with the thumb up.
This is nothing less than the fact that UESHIBA Sensei is doing Irimi Nage based on the combined AIKI methods explained this time.
At the end of this course
This is the end of the Web AIKI Course for beginners and intermediate level. I believe all the people who finished this course already could start handling AIKI.
However, due to time constraints, this course only explains the entrance to AIKI. There are still many mystical techniques in AIKI, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to introduce them one by one in the close future.
Thank you so much for watching through the course.
