Lesson 7 - Targeted Force Transfer
This method is [to collapse the opponent by applying force to the target away from the contact place], which is very similar to the undetectable Force Transfer method already explained.
The difference is that in the Undetectable Force Transfer method, you just need to move your hand or arm without applying force to the contact place, but with this method, you don’t just move it.
When you move the arm or hand you have to make a strong image that the force is directly transmitted to one part of the opponent’s body away from the contact part.
Now I explain how to practice this Targeted Force Transfer method.
How to Practicethe Targeted Force Transfer Method
A and B sit by Seiza face to face.
A…Defender
B…Attacker
a・B grabs both wrists of A with about 1/3 force.
b・One by one, left and right alternatively, A pushes up B’s arm to send force to his shoulder without applying force to the grasped wrist.
c・When B feels A’s force on his wrist, he blocks A’s movement immediately with all his strength. Otherwise never grasp A’s wrists too strongly.
d・If the force is correctly transmitted to the shoulder, B will feel a force pushing up his shoulder, and the shoulder will be lifted and he is collapsed.
e・If you can do one by one, let’s push up both shoulders at once.
This training focuses on how to apply force to the opponent’s shoulder without applying force to the grasped wrist.
Now I will explain the specific points.
1 Teach your arms how to move
Pushing up the opponent’s shoulder alternately will become natural after 2 or 3 repetitions. Therefore, let the arms remember how to move so that the force is applied to the shoulder at that time.
Once you have memorized it, try pushing up with one shoulder alone. After a few repetitions, everyone should be able to do it.
If not, go back to alternating pushing up practice and let arm remember the movement.
2 Perform pushing up with two hands/arms at the same timing
If you can push up the opponent’s shoulder left and right, you just need to move both hands/arms at the same time to push up his both shoulders.
If you can’t do this, try pushing up by one hand/arm left and right one after another with a time interval. The point here is not to repeat the motion alternately, but to push up the opponent’s shoulder left and right with a certain time interval.
If you can do this, you should be able to do both hands/arms at the same time.
Summary of Lesson 7
As soon as you try to push up your opponent with your physical strength, the force is applied on the grasped wrists and your motion will be blocked by the opponent.
Therefore, in order to transmit force to the opponent’s shoulder without applying force to the grasped wrist, it is also important to move the arm with the image of pushing the opponent’s arm into the shoulder.
If the force works effectively, the force will suddenly be applied to the shoulder, which is away from the wrist that the opponent is grasping, and the opponent will not be able to resist and will be collapsed.
