Iai is the art of overcoming the enemy with a moment of sword drawing. It is not merely about drawing the sword. We learn to know rigorously and to use the body and the sword without waste.
The purpose of iaido training is to develop the mental preparedness to respond flexibly to situations, to cultivate the mental strength to endure without giving in, to learn civility, and to improve our skills to be useful in life.
