Practice Methods to Bring Karate Kata to Life

Kata was born from Kumite. Kumite was born from fighting.

This is the word of the grand master of Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate Seikichi Toguchi.Practice methods to acquire the fundamentals to advance to real fighting techniques with a partner are the “8 Bunkai Kumite*” created by Grand Master Toguchi Seikichi. Master Yoshio Kuba has further refined this valuable training methods, and Tetsuji Sato, a master of Goryukan Dojo who learned from Master Kuba, explains it carefully in two volumes.

*The method of training in which all Kata movements are performed in pairs.

Director of Goryukan, Shizuoka Prefecture Branch of Okinawa Karatedo Kenpo-Kai. He is a Goju-ryu Kenpo master. After learning Karate in mainland Japan, he learned under Okinawan traditional Goju-ryu Karate Kenpo by Sensei Yoshio Kuba and Sensei Takahiro Shinjo. He travels between Okinawa and his hometown Gotemba-City at the foot of Mt. Fuji, both training himself and instructing both domestically and internationally. He has many works in books and videos of Karate such as the book“The Mysteries of Karate unraveled by Okinawan Traditional Goju-ryu Kenpo”and the video“Practical Kata Training Method by Traditional Okinawan Goju-ryu Kenpo”.
