Gichin Funakoshi taught that the significance of kata practice was that it benefited physical education, self-defense and moral and spiritual cultivation. Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation, founded by Soke Hirokazu Kanazawa, has also inherited this way of kata practice.

In this DVD, Director Nobuaki Kanazawa, heir to the Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation, starts with performing the kata Enpi, Gojushiho Dai and Unsu and then moves on to explaining in detail the kata moves, their practical application and the meaning of kata practice.

Nobuaki Kanazawa
Born in 1972, he is the eldest son of Hirokazu Kanazawa.

In 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000, he won the Shotokan Karate-do International Federation National Championships in the individual open weight category.

In 2000, he won the Shotokan Karate-do International Federation World Championships in the individual kumite for the +75kg category as well as the and the Grand Champion title.

In 2003, he became the director of the Shotokan Karate-do International Federation.

Αdmiration for Kanazawa is not limited to the karate world; he is also well respected among martial artists from other arts including kickboxers for his personality and sought after as an educator.
