Meishinkan Dojo is a traditional iaido dojo founded in 1960 by the late Shoji Kimura, a senior disciple of the 19th Soke, Harumasa Fukui. The dojo name was bestowed by Naoto Takada, the second chairman of the Yaegaki Association.

Training begins with proper etiquette, wearing of keikogi and hakama, and the fundamentals of sword handling, including drawing and resheathing. Through basic body movement (tai-sabaki), practitioners develop balance, flexibility, and strong legs and hips, making iaido suitable for all ages. As a solo discipline, iaido can be practiced in many environments.

Intermediate training emphasizes precise technique, footwork, and correct sword handling based on iaido principles (riai), cultivating speed, power, spirit, and mental strength.

Advanced practitioners focus on paired sword training (kumitachi) to develop maai (distance), irimi (entering), and the ability to perceive an opponent’s intent, ultimately aiming for the ideal of mutō (no-sword).
Occasional test cutting (tameshigiri) is also conducted to confirm proper grip and blade alignment.

While training can be demanding, Meishinkan Dojo strives to provide an environment where serious practice and enjoyment coexist.
