In 1927, Master Sugino Yoshio, a direct student of Kano Jigoro, opened his dojo for Judo training — the beginning of the Yuishinkan Sugino Dojo.
It later became an officially licensed school of Katori Shinto-ryu and the second branch of the Aikikai in Japan.
The dojo has continued to offer instruction in both Katori Shinto-ryu and Aikido ever since.
Master Sugino Yoshio also served as the sword instructor for the Akira Kurosawa film Seven Samurai and was known as “The Last Swordsman.”
